As a high-quality healthy edible oil, the storage and packaging of olive oil are essential to maintain the quality of the oil. As a container that directly contacts the product, the material, sealing and use of the olive oil bottle will affect the freshness and flavor of the olive oil. The following are precautions for the use and storage of olive oil bottles for reference by relevant practitioners and consumers.

1. Choose the right bottle material

Olive oil bottles are usually made of glass or food-grade plastic. Glass bottles are a more ideal choice because of their high chemical stability and will not react with oils. Dark glass (such as brown or green) can effectively block light and reduce the oxidation of ultraviolet rays on oils, thereby extending the shelf life. If using plastic bottles, ensure that they meet food-grade standards to avoid the risk of plasticizer migration.

2. Ensure the sealing of the bottle mouth

Olive oil is easily affected by oxygen and oxidized and deteriorated, so the sealing of the bottle cap is crucial. Screw caps or vacuum seals can effectively reduce air entry and delay oil rancidity. Consumers are advised to tighten the bottle cap in time after each use to avoid long-term open storage.

3. Avoid high temperature and direct sunlight

The best storage temperature for olive oil is 15℃ to 20℃. High temperature will accelerate the oxidation of oil and lead to flavor deterioration. When storing, keep away from heat sources such as stoves and heaters, and choose a cool and dark place. If using a transparent glass bottle, it is recommended to take additional shading measures, such as storing it in a cupboard.

4. Pay attention to upright storage and avoid contamination

Olive oil bottles should be placed upright, avoid tilting or inverting, to reduce the contact area between the bottle mouth and the oil and reduce the risk of contamination. During use, water or other impurities should be avoided from entering the bottle to avoid breeding bacteria or affecting the quality of the oil.

5. Reasonably control the frequency of opening the lid

Frequent opening of the lid will increase oxygen contact and accelerate the oxidation of oil. It is recommended to pack according to the use needs and reduce the number of times the main bottle is opened. Unopened olive oil can be stored for 18-24 months under suitable conditions. It is recommended to use it up within 3-6 months after opening.

Correct use and storage of olive oil bottles can not only maintain the flavor and nutritional value of the oil, but also enhance the consumer experience. When exporting olive oil products, foreign trade practitioners should fully consider the suitability and compliance of packaging to ensure that the products meet international standards.
